What is Safey Auditing

Work health and safety auditing is a formal process requiring evaluation of performance of safety systems in comparison to a known benchmark that may be internally developed at your organisation or more commonly an externally developed benchmark.

There are two extremely important issues in safety audits:

  • The safety audit is mandatory for self insurers. Self insurers are under a legal obligation to meet regulator standards for licensing purposes. Failure to meet these standards may mean loss of the license.
  • The safety audit is critical to organisational work health and safety efficiency. Inadequate or outdated safety management systems can lead to serious issues for persons conducting business or undertakings, including major financial losses. It’s essential to ensure that safety procedures and reporting systems are fully capable of dealing with the safety requirements of an organisation.
  • The safety audit is a means to determine and understand your current gaps, or compliance to Work Health and Safety  legislation. Significant change has occurred with Work Health and Safety legislation. The changes include long established duties and obligations of not only the organisation, but those who have the responsibility to manage the organisation.
