We were founded to fill a clear gap in the market, the need for practical, expert advice on safety management systems. After years of experience as a Work Health and Safety (WHS) inspector and systems auditor with WorkCover (SafeWork NSW), our founder saw firsthand how many businesses across NSW were struggling to understand and implement their WHS responsibilities effectively.
Lane Safety Systems was created to change that, and we’ve been helping businesses ever since.

Darren Lane
Managing Director | Certified ISO 45001 Lead Auditor | Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety
Darren Lane is a safety professional with over 20 years of experience in workplace health and safety. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety and is a Certified ISO 45001 Lead Auditor.
His career began in local government, followed by roles in state government within the maritime industry. He later became a WHS Inspector with WorkCover (now SafeWork NSW), the safety regulator in New South Wales. Over six years in that role, he observed firsthand the widespread lack of practical WHS knowledge across many industries.
This insight led him to establish Lane Safety Systems, with the goal of supporting businesses through expert, hands-on guidance in developing and implementing effective safety management systems.
In 2023, Darren was appointed by the NSW Minister for Transport as the independent Work Health and Safety expert for the NSW Bus Industry Taskforce. The Taskforce was established in response to the tragic Hunter Valley bus crash, which claimed 10 lives. His role involved providing independent expert safety advice to NSW Minister for Transport on bus operations and contributing to state-wide improvements in bus safety management systems.
As part of the Taskforce, Darren:
Reviewed Transport for NSW’s regulatory oversight, including its ability to manage, monitor, and implement safety management systems and key risks within the industry.
Conducted consultative activities with key stakeholders such as bus operators, unions, and representative associations.
Contributed to the development of three public reports, delivered between July 2023 and May 2024, which set out 17 key safety principles and 26 sub-recommendations to improve bus safety across NSW.
